Sculpteo 3D Figure Printing Service Giveaway

E-mail Print PDF

Sculpteo is a company that until today I had never heard of. They claim to be able to take two pictures, a frontal picture of your face and a profile shot, and create a 3D figurine of you. They offered us the chance to check it out and give one away to one of our readers.

If you don't want to wait, you can get a free keychain of your own design. I'll let you all know how it plays out and see if the figurine is an accurate depiction of me.

Keep updated for your chance to win!

The Internet and Gambling

E-mail Print PDF

I have a good friend who went to Rutgers and it seemed like he never had money issues. I could never figure out why this was-- he didn't have a job and his parents didn't give him much money. I one day asked him what he does in his free time and he said he went to Atlantic City often and played poker and blackjack.

This all made no sense to me until I realized that he brought his laptop to class to play online poker. Somehow, he often made over $1000 in a day and rarely lost more than a few hundred when he didn't win. Instead of the old fasioned idea of a college-aged student working to earn his money, he was making it online by gambling.

I wanted to make some money too, so I tried out Pokerstars. Unfortunately, I was too afraid to lose much so I only deposited $100.  Then I played a few games bouncing back and forth from $90 to $110 and cashed out at $110 thinking that a 10% profit was pretty good. I guess I'm not really the type of person to be doing this anyway and left the online gaming world forever.

You aren't only restricted to Poker anymore however.  You can now play pretty much any casino game at a casino online.  It's pretty neat how some people can make so much money doing this. It's sad too how you can now lose money at your own home. Still, the internet has changed the world in some interesting ways. Maybe it's partially responsible for the decline of Atlantic City and Las Vegas over the past decade.

Awesome stuff

E-mail Print PDF

Well, as you know CES was an incredible success for us. We all had a lot of fun. Because of this great success, we have a TON of stuff to review.

If you haven't noticed, we've switched to become more consistent. Our writers are now pumping out at least two stories a week now. This is better for both of us. It's fun to write but without a schedule, it's sometimes difficult to fit it into our lives. Now that we have committed time, we can make sure it all gets done and that our articles are useful and well written.

I am hoping that we can continue our series on the Internet that our PC writer David Boehm started. Rather than review after review, we can share our knowledge of technology with our readers too.

Another thing you might have noticed is the fact that we have a few new writers with us. Shane Chandler and Will Anderson have joined us as Video Game writers. They're both extremely talented and are very well versed in the field. I hope they can continue on with us for a long time since their articles are always a blast to read. Matt Torino is still with us writing his ever controversial stories and keeping us all entertained. Our video games section is headed by Jonathan Maltz, the new editor of the section. It's his great wisdom that keeps the section rolling smoothly and also helps me focus more on writing rather than management.

In our PCs section, we have David Boehm as the editor with some articles written be yours truly and a new writer to join us, Jerimiah Booream-Phelps. It's my hope that Jerimiah will also cover some Science too. David Liu is also joining us with a focus on mobile computing. He also has some knowledge of audio, so that should be a good help.

Cayman Islands and some testing

E-mail Print PDF

I will be heading off to the Cayman Islands this Sunday to do some research, but while I'm there I will be testing out at least two neat things:

I will take the GoPro Hero HD down very deep underwater, and I will take the JH Audio JH-16 Pro with me, of course, inside its Otterbox 1000 case.  I believe this will be the deepest any JH Audio product will have gone and I am happy to be (hopefully) the first to do it.  Let's see how they sound after 44 extra PSI attempts to crush its case.  I will record the depth and show the case underwater with me with the GoPro Hero HD camera mounted to my head.  Let's hope that it works out well.

I will also be testing two new watches I recently got, along with my trusty favorite Tudor Submariner.  I recently hit up Amazon's gold box deal and got an Invicta Pro Diver Automatic which should be good for 200m under the sea.  I also have a new (but old) Zodiac V-Wolf Quartz dive watch supposedly good to 300m.  Of course, I will also be taking my as of now favorite dive watch, my Tudor Submariner-- good to 200m.  I've gone underwater to about 70 feet before with the Tudor and hopefully it will do me no harm again.  While these tests don't really go with the Tech aspects of the site, I will post a quick summary in my blog about them.

While I'm gone, I will be with very limited internet access since I will be on Little Cayman Island (pop ~70) on a rudimentary satellite internet line.  Because of this, I will not have the opportunity to write much and David Boehm, our PC editor, will take over my duties.  I believe he and the rest of our staff have some fun things planned for while I'm gone including a thermal paste shootout, possibly a review of some new speakers from Scythe, and hopefully some gaming peripheral reviews in addition to some console games and other fun things.  Even though I'll be gone, keep watch for more to come.  I'll try to keep in touch with twitter and this blog too!  I have prepared myself to film over 500gb of HD video while gone and when I return will do lots of editing  until I get some nice clips from the GoPro HD Hero to show our readers.  We will also be unveiling our Youtube channel as well after my return where we will feature video reviews as well as test footage.

Until then... enjoy and keep sharing pnosker.com to your friends!
